Hull City Association Football Club is a professional English soccer team in Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire. Founded in 1904, the historic team will be competing in the Championship in the 2021–22 season after securing victory the 2020–21 League One title.
Here are some things that you may not know about the team:
- Hull City were part of the first ever penalty shootout in England – and lost. They were defeated by Manchester United in the semi-final of the short-lived Watney Cup in 1970. George Best scored the winning kick.
- The team reached their first ever FA Cup final last season, which they ended up losing 3-2 to Arsenal after greater time. Before that, the Tigers had in no way competed in an FA Cup or League Cup final.
- Hull City’s Arthur Childs was once the first and only participant ever to be sent off for wearing inappropriate boots. Shortly after the incident in 1928, the legal guidelines of the sport were modified so that soccer players with improper attire can be allowed to return to the pitch as soon as the problem had been corrected.
- Up till the early 1960s, when league games took place on Christmas Day, Hull City and Grimsby Town were the only two exempt teams from enjoying due to the fact that fans in the fishing industry needed to be at work.
- Last season Hull City finished in their best possible league position. Under Steve Bruce the Tigers finished the season 16th in the Barclays Premier League.
- Southampton’s current striker Shane Long, moved to St Mary’s from Hull City in the summer, is the Tigers’ most high priced sale in their history.
- In 2014, Hull City grew to be one of just a few English leagues without the club’s title on their crest.
- Ten years after being on the backside of the fourth tier of English football, Hull City spent some time at the top of the Barclays Premier League in 2008, having lost simply one of their opening nine league matches.
